As we reflect on the birth of Christ, we look forward to His second coming in much the same way the Old Testament saints did to His first. Since we are assured of His coming, we look forward to it with hopeful anticipation evidenced by holy living. Our God will prove Himself faithful as both the Alpha and Omega of all things.

Proper worship begins with a right understanding of who we are, who God is, and what He has done for us. Those who worship the Lord in spirit and truth acknowledge His holiness with reverence and awe and serve Him with joyful fear. Our God is worthy of all praise and prescribes how He ought to be worshipped by His beloved children to His glory and our benefit.

Each of us, as Christians, have a unique role to fill within the church. All of us, however, are called to pursue holy living, fight the good fight of faith, and hold fast to our confession of faith. We do these things knowing that our victory is assured by our immutable Sovereign, and that we will one day enter into His inexpressible joy.

Each of us is called to labor for the sake of the Master rather than for personal gain. Those who carry out this charge in an honorable way are worthy of respect while those who do not are in need of reproof. Whether it be for good or ill, the labor of each person will eventually be made obvious, and the Lord will reward those who faithfully serve Him.

Widows who are faithful to the saints, the Word, and prayer are a key demographic within the early church. These widows, known for their devotion to good works and their training of young women, should be supported by the church and their fellow members. Younger widows, on the other hand, are encouraged to remarry so as to avoid both idleness and malicious gossip. All saints should emulate the characteristics of these worthy widows.

How we treat one another as part of the family of God should be a testimony to the faith we possess. Honoring one another in word and deed and caring for the neediest of God’s children are part and parcel to godliness. We, therefore, should care for one another and our families as God cares for His own children.

To remain steadfast and faithful is the calling of both pastors and their parishioners as they seek to immerse themselves in the reading and teaching of the Word. We must train ourselves for godliness and persevere in “the words of the faith and good doctrine” so that, by doing so, we may obtain the outcome of our faith which is the salvation of our souls.

As the Holy Spirit predicted, we are living in the midst of countless demonic doctrines pushed by leaders whose consciences have been seared by their disregard for sin. This false spirituality must be confronted with true doctrine that is rooted in love and gratitude for the God who created all things and dispenses countless blessings to His children.

The identity of the church is bound up in the defense and proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As those who were called out of darkness into marvelous light, we proclaim the “mystery of godliness” with a clean conscience and a sincere conviction. We, as the church, represent living stones consecrated for honoring and glorifying the Savior who ransomed us as a people for His own possession.

Diaconal ministry is a calling that demands much of those who undertake serving the needs of the church. This labor is certainly not one without its rewards, but can also easily go unnoticed. A dignified life, a sound doctrine, and a stable family are all necessary for this crucial work that is dedicated and rewarded by the Lord.
