Scripture, on the other hand, shows us that nothing is without meaning or significance when considered as part of God’s grand, immutable purpose and will. Therefore, we as children of God should view all things and circumstances as our allotted portion and as His means for conforming us to the image of His Son.

The wisdom of men and the wisdom of God are often contrasted in Scripture to remind us that God's thoughts are not like the thoughts of men. Ultimately, the knowledge and wisdom we gain from this world can never lead us to true satisfaction because it is temporary, troublesome, and fleeting. Only God, eternal and immutable, can instruct the hearts of men in true, godly wisdom and understanding.

It is easy to become busy about the things of this life, but the Preacher reminds us that such busyness will not result in true satisfaction or joy. While this life offers both pleasant and unpleasant moments, they are all momentary, fleeting and, in the end, amount to nothing but forgotten memories. True contentment must be sought in the life to come because this life offers nothing but incessant toil with no lasting peace.
